CHARLOTTE SIMONE

I've definitely been living under rock, having only just stumbled across Charlotte Simone through Instagram.

The British born designer Charlotte Beecham, founded the brand in 2011. Simone's aim is to reinvent the everyday scarf, creating a multifunctional collection composed of fur, knits and woven materials.

Although I do not agree with the use of 'real' fur in the production of clothing, I admire that the brand ethically sources all their fur. Not only this, but all styles are available in faux fur.

Here are a few of my favourites from their A/W 15 collection:

Rainbow Twist - £155.00

Fuzzy Cuff - £250.00 (Real Fur), £150.00 (Faux Fur)

Candyfloss Wrap - £250.00

Huggy - £200.00

I love the brand's cutesy, girly twist on fur accessories. I can't wait to hopefully get my hands on some of these pieces in the near future.

Until next time,

THE OVERSIZED SCARF

This is one of my favourite outfits to post yet.

I have been on the look out for an oversized scarf such as this for what feels like years, and I finally managed to find one on (you guessed it..) ASOS! I love the fact that the scarf is predominantly grey and black as this means that it will fit well with almost every outfit in my wardrobe. I'm also a great fan of this unique oversized dogtooth print.

Jacket - Missguided | Top - Topshop | Skirt - Topshop | Scarf - ASOS | Hat - Topshop | Sunglasses - Quay | Boots - Topshop

Underneath the oversized scarf and the throw on jacket, I wore a black tank tee and a grey marl ribbed midi skirt with black tights.

SUMMATIVE PROJECT #1 | SKETCHBOOK

Alongside our final report, it was also advised that we produce a sketchbook to document and outline further our ideas and research.

The sketchbook I have produced is extremely simple, only displaying images I have found through secondary research, and my own brief annotations. However I thought I should share it on here none the less.

MONUMENTS SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED

Last weekend I decided to head over to the Lace Market in Nottingham to take a look at the Contemporary's new exhibition, 'Monuments Should Not Be Trusted'.

The exhibition brings together over 30 leading artists and groups from the 'golden years' of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, being the early 1960's and mid 1980's.

The artwork was on a far smaller scale than the previous exhibition 'Alien Encounters', and I felt that most of the artwork had a far deeper meaning.

Here are some photos I took whilst walking around the exhibition space.

I really hope these photos inspire you to visit the Contemporary in your spare time. I really felt that I learnt a lot after experiencing this artwork from across the globe.

Thankyou for reading,

SUMMATIVE PROJECT #1 | THE BIG IDEA

I've found this last part of the task to be the most difficult out of all three tasks, attempting to think outside the box, creating an idea totally unique to others already in existence.

As I am writing this, I have only thought of one idea. Although I hope to produce many by the time my report is due in.

My idea is as follows..

'KISS IT BETTER'

'Kiss it Better' is a range of practical plasters brought to drug stores by the designer Lulu Guinness.

The plasters will be produced in the shape of Guinness' iconic lip red lip shape, and be available in a range of three different colours and prints, and sizes to suit every individual.

The plasters will not only be practical but also fun, quirky and unique.

I will also be creating various marketing strategies and identifying my target market within this part of my work.

Thankyou for reading one of my final posts about this term's summative project.

BOOK REVIEW | GRACE (A MEMOIR OF GRACE CODDINGTON)

I am so thrilled to share with you one of my favourite books I have read to date, Grace.

The book follows the wonderful character of Grace Coddington as she allows us to experience her life from a young girl to a fashion editor at Vogue.

Grace's witty and charming tone throughout the book makes it a light and exciting read as she narrates you through her life. She touches upon growing up in Wales as a child, her early modelling career and  her career at American Vogue, to name a few!

One aspect I particularly love about this book and Grace herself is that she is not afraid to be brutally honest, especially when talking to her close colleague Anna Wintour. Which subsequently makes her stand out from others within the industry, as most would crumble around Wintour. Her opinionated personality is also shown well in the documentary 'The September Issue', wish I highly recommend you watching if you haven't already.

The book itself is coffee table worthy, the cover being bright orange and the book itself filled with wonderful and interesting photos and illustrations of Grace's life.

I find it particularly difficult to write about book's I have read as I do not want to reveal to much about the contents. But this book is definitely worth a read, whether you're interested in fashion or not. Coddington is truly a admirable individual, someone I look up to who works within the industry in which I hope to work someday.

PAST AND PRESENT STYLE ICONS

In today's post I am going to talk to you about my style icons, both past and present.

PAST

1. MORRISSEY

I am a huge fan of The Smiths as a band. To me Morrissey effortless style was at it's best when the group were together; loose fitted shirts, classic button down jeans, not forgetting to pile on a ton beaded necklaces.

Here is one of my many favourite performances: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h-lN-ipAEI

2. LAUREN HUTTON

I have only recently fallen in love with Lauren Hutton's 70's style. Aside from Hutton being stunningly beautiful, her clothing choices are as equally fabulous. Tailored trousers and silken shirts were often a combination that you'd find Hutton sporting.

3. JIMI HENDRIX

Jimi Hendrix is the ultimate 70's style icon to me. His music was, and still is amazing, but his unique style was even more wonderful. Hendrix would be found wearing explosions of colour, bold psychedelic prints, fringing and his trademark bandana.

PRESENT

1. SUKI WATERHOUSE

Suki Waterhouse is the ultimate London girl. Waterhouse's 60's style with an edge, and her willingness to try something different with her outfit choices is something I admire.

2. RIHANNA

The ultimate style chameleon. Rihanna always plays by her own rules and pushes boundaries with her fashion choices, and still manages to pull off any outfit! Rihanna can do no wrong!

3. ANNA DELLO RUSSO

Russo's maximalist style is exactly why I love her. She isn't afraid to try something flamboyant and totally unexpected, which has subsequently resulted in her becoming a street style icon. Russo really is bringing back the fun into fashion.

I hope after reading this post that you feel as inspired as I do to switch up my outfit choices on a daily basis, and try something new and totally unexpected!

Thankyou for reading,
