A SEASONAL PALETTE

It's time to wrap up!

Just this past week I visited my sister in Newcastle, and oh boy it was a chilly day.

I unintentionally (I swear) pulled together a rather festive outfit, wearing my beloved red high necked knit that I pull out every winter and pairing this with my new Monki tapered tartan trousers.

For extra warmth I added my dark green woollen coat from Topshop and finished this look with my trusty Zara pointed black boots.

THE PRINT SHIRT

Welcome back!

It's been a long time coming but I've finally got around to putting together another outfit post.

Channelling my 'inner' Harry Styles I paired this loose fitting leopard printed shirt with ripped black shorts fastened by my leather western tipped belt.

Shirt - Topshop | Shorts - MissGuided | Choker - ASOS | Belt - ASOS | Sunglasses - ASOS | Boots - Zara

For shoes I wore my trusty Zara black pointed boots and dressed the shirt with my new favourite statement choker by ASOS, which I really feel pulls the outfit together with the added embellishment.

I love the simplicity and edge this outfit brings together with the loose fitting shirt and ripped shorts, very LA. I really hope to get my paws on a few more of similar shirts for layering this A/W.

CO-ORDINATION

Just yesterday I returned home from my first trip to Holland, Amsterdam.

I had the best three days exploring the beautiful city and now it's safe to say that Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities yet, and I hope to return later this year.

We were blessed with beautiful weather for the last few days of our visit, so whilst out shopping in the sun I popped into one of my all time favourite stores, Monki and picked up this checkered co-ord having spotted it in and amongst the crazy, colourful visuals created in the store window.

 Top - Monki | Skirt - Monki | Sunglasses - ASOS | Trainers - Converse

I was firstly drawn in by the skirt. The unique ruffled detail was unlike anything I had seen this season in stores. Then immediately my eyes drifted to the matching boxy tee and  once having tried both pieces on I decided that I couldn't leave Monki without it.

Whilst wandering through the streets of Amsterdam I paired this
co-ord with my trusty pair of Converse, to dress down and make this outfit feel a bit playful.

SLOUCHY CHIC

This past weekend the sunshine finally decided to make an appearance, at long last!

I spent the day out and about in one of my favourite cities, York, so I wanted to wear something that would be comfortable to explore in and yet look reasonably stylish.

I dug out a chunky knit of mine which I had bought months ago in anticipation for breezy summer days, and paired it with my favourite boyfriend jeans.

Jumper - ASOS | Jeans - ASOS | Choker - ASOS | Sunglasses - ASOS | Boots - Topshop

Before investing in this jumper, I was never a great fan of the 'cold shoulder' trend. However, the contrast of a heavy knit with the fine detail of cut outs on the shoulders I feel works.

More outfit posts coming soon!

THE BLACK FEDORA

Will I ever wear colour? The answer is no.

Jacket - Topshop | T-Shirt - H&M | Jeans - New Look | Choker - ASOS | Hat - Topshop | Sunglasses - ASOS | Boots - Topshop

Today I threw on my favourite jacket, with a grey tee (in an attempt to break up the mass of black), skinny jeans, and my black boots. Not forgetting to mention my new black fedora, which I'm pretty convinced looks great with anything!

A slightly more 'edgier 'look to the last outfit I posted styling this jacket.

Thankyou for reading.

THE OVERSIZED CHECKED SHIRT DRESS

Presentation day!

Simple, practical and above all comfortable.

Dress - Topshop | Sunglasses - ASOS (Mens) | Choker - ASOS | Boots - Zara

This check shirt dress is a different take on the usual checked shirt I often wear.

I styled it with my favourite sunglasses, my pointed boots and my velvet choker which I am utterly obsessed with at the moment.

THE OVERSIZED SCARF

This is one of my favourite outfits to post yet.

I have been on the look out for an oversized scarf such as this for what feels like years, and I finally managed to find one on (you guessed it..) ASOS! I love the fact that the scarf is predominantly grey and black as this means that it will fit well with almost every outfit in my wardrobe. I'm also a great fan of this unique oversized dogtooth print.

Underneath the oversized scarf and the throw on jacket, I wore a black tank tee and a grey marl ribbed midi skirt with black tights.

THE SHAGGY FAUX FUR COAT

It's been a while since my last outfit post.

Ever since Christmas day I've been itching to wear and share one of my favourite gifts with you all.

This gift comes in the form of this AMAZING faux fur coat which I was lucky enough to receive from my boyfriend as a Christmas gift.

Coat - ASOS | Jeans - Jack Wills | Choker - Market Stall | Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters | Boots - Topshop

Over the years I have begun to accumulate a number of faux fur coats, yet this coat is the most unique of the bunch yet. The shaggy texture, rinsed baby pink shade and distinctive spotted pattern creates a coat that does not look new at all in my opinion, but rather a coat you'd find in at a vintage stall or even a charity shop.

This coat will look awesome with a roll neck and platform boots, a
look I can't wait to style and show upcoming posts.

THE RIBBED KNIT

When I spotted this knit online, I immediately fell in love. Firstly I love the structure of this piece. The high neck, wide sleeves and ribbed texture, but most importantly the bright bold orange colour. A colour I usually do not tend to be drawn to when buying clothing for myself.

Jumper - Topshop | Skirt - ASOS | Sunglasses - Quay | Boots - Topshop

Similar to a previous outfit post, I paired this jumper with my leather mini skirt and black boots as I wanted this knit to really stand out.

I usually always make sure that I carry and wear a pair of sunglasses on a daily basis regardless of the weather, as  I feel as though they can really finish an outfit off perfectly. In this case I wore sunglasses by one of my favourite brands Quay, who produce sunglasses with unique shapes and lenses, that you would often not commonly find on the high street.

THE AVIATOR JACKET

Yesterday I ran out for a quick shopping trip, and this is what I threw on in a mad rush.

Jacket - an online shop I cannot remember! | Top - Topshop | Jeans - Topshop | Hat - ASOS | Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters | Boots - Topshop

This outfit to me gives off an American feel through the slightly oversized jacket, and the cap which I enjoy. But above all it was practical and comfy for a weekend shopping trip.

(I promise some of my upcoming outfit posts will not feature again my choice of ripped jeans and black boots!)

Thankyou for reading this short post!

THE BOYFRIEND JEAN

It's time for one of my favourite posts. An outfit post.

I've owned these pair of jeans for years now, yet haven't quite had the courage to wear them out often enough. Which in hindsight seems so silly now, as they are the comfiest jeans ever and although not the most flattering, I do think they add an interesting edge to an outfit. But more importantly I should be able to WEAR WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT, without considering other's opinions.

I opted for a well loved Topshop striped shirt of mine, a leather jacket and (no surprise here!) a pair of my slouchy black boots.

Jacket - Topshop | Shirt - Topshop | Jeans - ASOS | Bag - Abercrombie and Fitch | Boots - Topshop

I love how slouchy and effortless this outfit looks whilst still looking fairly stylish, an 'I just rolled out of bed and chucked on what ever clothes I could find' kinda look.

This is definitely the comfiest outfit I've worn out in a long time and I cannot wait to style these jeans again in another post.

Thankyou for reading,

THE FRINGED JACKET

I've been searching high and low for a fringed jacket for what feels like forever, and finally I have got my hands on this Topshop beauty. Although I was initially looking for a leather jacket, I really couldn't help but fall for fringed denim. Not only will it look great styled in the colder months, with chunky scarfs and roll necks, but it will also be great for summer paired with cutoffs.

I styled it here with a grey roll neck top (which also appeared in my previous outfit post), ripped black jeans, and (no surprise here!) a pair of my black boots.

PREPPY PLAID

Tis' the season for tartan.

In my opinion, the tartan trend is now a bit repetitive. Every A/W season it is yet again 'on trend', and an almost unavoidable pattern to choose from in almost anything you appear to purchase, from clothing itself, to accessories or home wear.

However, I contradict myself here, because I do enjoy the occasional plaid piece. This is especially the case when I wish to channel a more preppy look.

So here is an outfit that I feel is both preppy and plaid.

This outfit is by no means spectacular or particularly original. But I like it so I thought I'd share it with you guys on this blog.

 Until next time,

NEW BUYS #1

After brainstorming ideas on what exactly I should blog, I have decided that I will dedicate a series of posts to things I have recently purchased.
So here we go with the first post of the series!

1. FAUX FUR STOLE - Topshop

I spotted this whilst in Topshop the other day and I couldn't resist despite the expensive price tag! I feel that the colour of this stole is a unique shade compared to many other traditional faux fur colours, and this piece will add a touch of glamour to any outfit.

2. BLACK CROPPED TOP WITH EXPOSED ZIP - Topshop

An 'essential' piece - adaptable to any occasion and goes well with almost everything in my wardrobe.
3. FRINGED DENIM JACKET - Topshop

I saw this and fell in love. How can you resist those 70's vibes?! Denim + Fringe = I'm in heaven.

4. #GIRL BOSS - Sophia Amoruso

I have been a fan of the store Nasty Gal for years now, and have been meaning to buy this book for ages! I am so happy I have FINALLY managed to get my hands on a copy! I have already begun reading in the past few days and can already tell it's going to become a favourite of mine.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this post, despite the poor quality photos and all clothing items being unintentionally bought from Topshop!

CHUNKY KNIT + LEATHER

Welcome!

After a year of sharing the blog 'soeurs de la mode' with my close friend (please check it out!), I have decided to create my own individual blog 'aliciaktravis'.

As a student studying fashion communication and promotion at university I feel that blogging must now not only be a hobby of mine, but more a crucial part of my everyday life as a fashion student.
The content of this blog will not only include fashion related posts, but also posts of a more random nature (aka - anything that interests me!) and posts about my university life at Nottingham Trent University.

I am not great at writing introductions, but I really do hope that my blog takes the interest of some and that you will enjoy reading my future posts.

So, with that said let's jump into my first post!

As it is now so chilly in Nottingham, I decided the best way to wrap up for lectures today was to throw on my favourite chunky aran wool cable knit jumper. I paired this with my faux leather skirt, tights and my favourite old battered boots.

A simple outfit, but I think it works.

Jumper - Vintage | Skirt - ASOS | Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters | Boots - Topshop

What I love about this outfit is the contrast between the old and the new. This jumper was knitted my grandma and worn by both my mum and sister during their time at university. Whilst the skirt is a fairly recent purchase of mine.

Thankyou for reading my first official post!
